DFW AIRPORT, Texas – October 16, 2020 – Dallas Fort Worth International (DFW) Airport’s focus on finding innovative ways to provide a “Clean. Safe. Ready.” environment includes a continued commitment to biometric technology. Among the initiatives is a recent pilot at the Airport that leverages a first-of-its-kind application of a facial recognition technology in the United States.
As part of a partnership that includes SITA, a leading technology provider for the air transport industry, a self-service bag drop pilot at DFW Airport is the first in the U.S. to employ CBP’s Traveler Verification System. Beyond safety and efficiency benefits, the SITA Smart Path Bag Drop provides a glimpse of the kinds of automation that will provide travelers more control, faster processing and a seamless, touchless experience.
“Right now – to earn and ensure customer confidence – airports need to be a leader in finding and nurturing innovative technology that delivers a secure, efficient, contactless experience,” said Paul Puopolo, executive vice president of innovation for DFW Airport. “DFW Airport is a place that embraces that commitment and is working to pioneer new ideas and new technologies to earn and maintain traveler trust. This pilot is an example of our commitment to work with partners and forge a path to the frictionless experience and meet the traveler’s evolving expectations.”
