DFW Airport Named Healthiest Employer in Texas

News Image DFW AIRPORT, Texas — Dec. 16, 2020 — DFW Airport has been named Healthiest Employer in Texas and one of the Top 100 Healthiest Workplaces in America.

The award honors people-first organizations that prioritize the well-being of their employee population, their commitment to workplace wellness and their exceptional health and benefits offerings. Award applicants were evaluated across six key categories: Culture and Leadership, Foundational Components, Strategic Planning, Communication and Marketing, Programming and Interventions and Reporting and Analytics.

The organization Healthiest Employers ranked DFW Airport number one in Texas in the category of businesses with 1,499 to 4,999 employees.

“We are thrilled to be recognized as Healthiest Employer in Texas and one of Healthiest Workplaces in America,” said DFW Airport Executive Vice President Executive Vice President, Administration, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Linda Thompson. “It is a testament to our employees’ commitment to wellness and to DFW Airport leadership, which is committed to providing a culture that promotes physical and emotional well-being for all employees and their families.”

DFW is credited with making huge strides this past year in transitioning to a customized, online wellness portal, giving all employees access to all things wellness related at the Airport 24-7. Employees can now record their health incentives or participate in wellness programs at their fingertips — be it from their smart phone, tablet or computer. This has been especially beneficial given the challenges of the pandemic with many employees working in the field or remotely. The result has been more timely recordings of wellness participation and incentive completions. In all, 86 percent of all employees completed at least two of the three health components in the Airport’s LiveWell program this past year, helping the Airport meet its organizational goal while enhancing employee engagement.

Moreover, over the past six years DFW Airport has seen a consistent 96 percent participation in completing at least one component of the LiveWell program, which includes emotional, physical and lifestyle wellness. In fact, wellness is engrained in the culture at DFW Airport thanks to the support of all senior staff members. Because of the high participation rate in our wellness program, DFW Airport completely waived the health insurance premiums for all employees for two months in 2019.

“DFW Airport continues to invest in the emotional and physical well-being of its diverse group of employees,” said DFW Airport Vice President Human Resources Ollie Malone. “DFW’s Total Rewards includes more than 60 programs and added benefits to help employees achieve work-life balance. And, through Safe Landings — DFW’s employee assistance program — employees and their families have access to valuable, confidential services at no cost. Being recognized in light of these efforts and amongst our peers is further assurance we’re on the right track.”

DFW Airport was chosen out of a national pool of applicants from all regions, size categories and industries. Completed applications were ranked with the Healthiest Employers Index, a 1-100 rubric for wellness programming. To date, more than 10,000 employers across more than 40 U.S. cities have participated in the awards program.
