Officer McCann is being recognized for her kindness, empathy, and professionalism on a Welfare Check. She helped an adult male passenger named Ted with autism who was stranded here at the airport. Officer McCann used her training and experience to effectively communicate with Ted and help him. He needed to get back to Chicago on Spirit but missed his flight. Ted had no money, no state ID, no cellphone, no means of transportation, no family in the area that could come get him, his credit card was frozen, and he had not eaten. Officer McCann used problem-solving skills to get Ted rebooked with Spirit without a rebooking fee. She also worked with TSA to get Ted through the security checkpoint without an ID, bought Ted dinner with her own money, contacted Ted’s bank to have his card unfrozen, and notified Ted's family.
